Ready For Christmas?

Anyone else like me out there already wondering if you'll get it all done? Christmas planning, I mean. Usually I start worrying about it now, but I'm waaaayyyy too busy to actually tackle the planning. It's so much easier to fret about it and complain that I don't have time. Well, I AM hugely busy (Praise the Lord!), but Christmas is coming. On the same day, every year! Go figure!

I did find an incredible buy on toys at Target some months ago and bought a lot of stuff, but most of my bargains I passed on to other members of my family for their enjoyment. Some I will use for my own gift giving, but I still have those all important gifts to buy. It's not really about the gifts, though. It's all the things that make the season memorable, at least in the sensory department.

Decorating the house. I mean come on! You need the house to look like it's Christmas, right? I love the lights, the trees, (yes, I add to my own frustration by putting up two trees and I know many of you do more than two!) The only problem is I have to clean my house before I can drag all that extra stuff out! OUCH!!! It's true I'm not a domestic superstar. Never made any claim to it. Anyone want to come and help me? I'm entertaining all offers!

But Christmas is so much more than all the lights and sounds and smells that we enjoy wo much. It's about the greatest gift ever given. The gift of God's amazing love! The gift of a savior, given in the form of fleshly babe, wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. But we dare not leave that babe in the manger as so many do. Remember He grew up. The Bible tells us that He grew in stature, just like our babes do. The only difference in Him and our children is He came and lived a perfect life, to lay it down. Lay it down to pay the price for our sins. A debt He didn't owe, but we couldn't pay. AND THEN...we don't leave Him on that cross, either!
He rose again on the third day!!! He prepared a way for us. Bridged that gap between Holy God and sinful man. Through His perfect life and sacrificial death we can live eternally in His presence!! Amen!

So, back to all that Christmas preparation. I think I'll just concentrate on preparing my heart for Christmas right now. What about you? There is plenty of time to prepare the house and the meals and the gifts, etc. Let's spend some time now, preparing our hearts, refocusing on His Majesty. Oh come let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!!!

The menu will wait.

Outside Fun

The kids and I went outside to enjoy the beautiful fall afternoon.  Sure it has rained for the past day, week, month, but the kids just needed to get out!  Jacob rode his bike.  Around and around in circles.

Andrew made his own target including the numbers for points and kept score.

The baby played in the water.  He loves to put things in and take things out.  This is especially true of water!

Such a fun time!

Family Fun

After reading this week’s blog hop, I just had to join in.  In our family, time together is precious.  With work schedules and life in general, time gets away from us.  When I began student teaching this year, I knew that I really wanted to start a tradition in our family that I cherished when I was little.  Growing up, every Friday night was Pizza and TGIF.  We all gathered around and enjoyed some time together.  Well, I couldn’t let my kids watch Friday night TV so we decided to make Friday night movie night.

To make it simple, we signed up for Netflix and set up a queue of movies our family would love.  I love that it is so simple.  I don’t have to remember to stop and get a movie.  Although, I did accidently throw one away (but that it another story altogether)….  I did find it before the trash went out!

Every Friday night, we pop popcorn and the kids get out their sleeping bags, blankets, cuddle buddies, pillows, etc. and we turn on the movie!

We are loving it.

Motorcycle Riding

Today my DH and I went for a ride on the Harley. IT WAS COLD!!!
The original plan was to ride towards the mountains to look at the leaves changing colors. I so enjoy riding on the motorcycle and I do so love the mountains and of course I SO enjoy seeing what God does in His creation (Don't you just love how He redecorates every season?) But as I get older, I don't so much love the cold!
I forgot to take my camera with us, so I don't have any pics. Not that I would have taken them anyway because I was too cold to take the gloves off! Remind me to buy new gloves.
Now, we have headed to the beach in February when the weather was very cold. Like 25 degrees with a wind chill of 70mph (or whatever speed we were going). That's cold. That may even border on crazy.
Today was supposed to be cool with clouds in the morning, clearing by 10 or so and warming up. Well not where we were! Just goes to show, no one can really forcast the weather. Only God knows what the weather is going to do.
We shortened our trip. We went through Guntersville, up to almost Fort Payne, over the mountain at Skyline (did I mention COLD) to Fayetteville and down Intersatate 65 home. We were home by 4pm! And I was ok with that! Really would have enjoyed the mountains and a weekend getaway but...maybe next time!
By the way, the leaves are gorgeous in spots but not all over. Valhermosa Springs, Lacey's Spring have pretty good color. Not so much around the Guntersville area, SPECTACULAR in the Skyline area. If you haven't taken the ride to Skyline I would highly recommend it. We stopped at the Walls of Jericho trailhead, but didn't hike.
I hope it's warmer tomorrow. Enjoy your weekend!
Don't forget to take time to worship God and thank Him for all your blessings!

Blog Party – Harvest of Friends

So, I am always up for meeting new and interesting people and making new friends. I read about the Blog Party Hop that Lynnette Kraft of Dancing Barefoot on Weathered Ground was hosting and thought it would be fun to join in.

I hope that you will comment and let us know that you stopped by. If you would like to join the party, just visit The Harvest of Friends Blog Party Hop.

1. What is your favorite thing to snack on while you're blogging?

Because I am always afraid of spilling something on the computer, I don’t snack here, but I do love to snack on popcorn.

2. What is one thing you wouldn't want to live without?

The Internet – How else could I find out about all these great blog hops!

3. Beach, Mountains or Farm? Where would you live if you had a choice?

A farm. I am in love with the idea of farm life, but I am not so sure that I would be a good farm hand!

4. What's your least favorite chore/household duty?

Cooking dinner. I hate all the prep that goes into it. It just bugs me!

5. Who do people say you remind them of?

I can’t really think of anyone…

6. Prefer parties and socializing or staying at home with the fam?

Staying home with the family, but it depends on who will be at the party. I am always up for a trip to MiMi’s to hang out with the rest of the family!

7. What's your all time favorite movie? Hope Floats or maybe Grease.

8. Do you sleep in your make up or remove it like a good girl every night? I don’t wear much makeup so I figure that it wears off before I go to bed…

9. Do you have a hidden talent or a deep desire to learn something that you've never had a chance to learn? What is it? Most of my talents are out there for the world to see, but I would love to learn more about knitting.

10. What's one strange thing you're really good at? After reading Lynnette’s answer, I have to agree, I can do this too and it really grosses people out!

11. What first attracted you to your spouse? His pretty smile!

12. What is something you love to smell? Cinnamon – It reminds me of Grandma Dee Dee’s house.

13. Tell something about you that you know irritates people. That I talk way too much about things that don’t matter way beyond when they do matter.

14. When you have extra money (HA!) what's the first thing you think to do with it? Do I need more yarn?

15. Are you a silent laugher or a loud laugher? What makes you laugh the hardest? It depends on who is around. When the kids do silly things. Tonight, Jacob and Caleb put on googles and asked if it was swimming time because they were ready. It was 35 this morning and 60 this afternoon!

16. Where is your favorite place to shop? Hobby Lobby!

17. What's one thing you'd do more often if you had more time? Knit and crochet!

18. Are you a big spender or frugal? In between. If I know that all the bills are paid and we are not really tight with money, I spend a bit more freely.

19. Who is your favorite character of all time (from a movie or book)? I love Fudge from Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.

20. Would you want to be famous? No. Too much pressure and I love my life the way it is.

I am really looking forward to reading everyone else’s responses. This blog hop will be really fun!

Favorite Shower Gift

Is there always a wedding shower going on in your church or office? We have lots of young people in our church so someone is always getting married or having a baby. Sometimes there will be a shower for a young couple that we just really don't know. Maybe we are acquaintances of the parents or maybe they are just members of our church and therefore members of our family. Either way, you need a gift.

Well, it happens to us too and I'm so bad to put off making a decision as to what to buy them I get behind in my gifts. We fixed it. This is now our favorite "go to" gift for wedding showers.

It is a generously sized white flour sack towel embroidered with "Love Never Fails" and scroll work. Then 3 of Charissa's famous dishcloths in coordinating colors(which we all know I dearly love) and a colorful towel with the initial of the couple's last name monogrammed on it.
If we can find a wedding registry for the couple we coordinate the colors to match what they have picked out. If not, black and white usually work!

This way we have a gift that we would not only use but enjoy using. It's not just a go to the W store and buy some dishcloths kind of gift, but it's not a break the bank kind of gift either.
It's personal and usable. My favorite kind of gift to give.

So, if you are like us, have lots of gifts to give and really hate to make decisions this is a gift that you can always count on. Give it a try.

Five Question Friday – Oct. 16th

My Little Life

So, I enjoyed answering and reading the answers to the Five Question Friday posts at Five Crooked Halos so I thought I would join in again.

1. What phrase, or phrases, do you say a lot (holy cow, geez, seriously?)

There are probably a lot of them that I don’t really even notice, but I do notice myself saying “But anyway” a lot.  Also, when the kids are being mean to each other, I hear myself telling them that they are being ugly.

2. Swimming: Are you a kamikaze off the boat, take the plunge from the deep end, or a gradual, slow submersion from the shore or shallow end kind of person?

This one really depends on where I will be swimming.  In the pool, I prefer to jump in the deep end and get the initial cold shock over with.  In the river, I prefer to be the second one in!

3. Have any tattoos? If not, what would you get?

I do have a tattoo on my hip from when I was young and a bit wild.  Just a little butterfly.  There will be no more tattooing happening in my life.

4. What is your favorite tree?

Cherry Blossoms.  I would love to go to Washington, D.C. during Cherry Blossom season and see all the trees in bloom.  They are so pretty.

5. Two pronged question: What is your favorite non-physical thing about your spouse? What is your favorite physical thing about your spouse or significant other?

I love everything about my spouse!  My favorite non physical thing about my husband would have to be that when he is off work, he brings the kids to their practices, games, cub scout meetings, etc.  My favorite physical thing about my husband is his smile and his eyes.

Hope you enjoyed this round of Five Question Friday.  Be sure to come back next week to see what crazy questions there will be.

Be Gracious

Oh my, don't you love that dishcloth giveaway? Don't forget to do all that stuff Charissa told you about, so you can enter!!! (You know she's our Techno Geek!) That's not an insult, she loves it!

I was thinking today about being more gracious. Actually, I'm doing a Beth Moore Bible study and she talked about that today on the dvd. Personally, I could be more gracious, you know, showing grace to others. In view of the grace that God has graciously bestowed on me, I should in turn, show that same grace to others. That Same Grace. Not that I could ever attain that level of graciousness, I mean really. God sent His only Son to pay my sin debt.
You can't top that, nor can you come anywhere near it. BUT we can show that same type of grace. Undeserved, to people who do not deserve our grace.

Kind of like forgiving people who have hurt you, just because you can. I mean, being mad really makes one ugly you know. It causes wrinkles. Yes, wrinkles.

Be the beautiful woman that God has created you to be. Today. Before it's too late. Someone needs your grace.
